Preview: NXT Takeover Chicago 20 May 2017
NXT Takeovers seem to be getting a bit more frequent this year, and this is no bad thing. There are storylines which have been lending themselves to marquee match payoffs. This is a slightly early preview so the card may change slightly based on this week's NXT. There are only title matches on the card at the moment and a few of NXT's bigger stars such as Roderick Strong or Eric Young might sneak onto the card.
WWE United Kingdom Championship:
Tyler Bate (c) v Pete Dunne
This is the first time the title has been defended on PPV. They haven't announced yet when the weekly UK show will start, but I think a change of title here might help to increase the anticipation for it. Dunne was possibly the favourite for January's UK Championship and one of the biggest names. I expect the bruiserweight to come off on top here and claim the title.
Prediction: Pete Dunne
NXT Women's Championship:
Asuka (c) v Ruby Riot v Nikki Cross
The last time Asuka was in a multi-superstar match, I predicted that she would drop the title as she could do so without being pinned and therefore without looking too weak. It didn't happen, but the logic still holds. With Ember Moon, the likely heir to Asuka's title being injured, Nikki Cross is the obvious choice as the more experienced of her opponents. However, I think they might hold back on that to let Ember Moon be the one to take the belt from Asuka when she returns from her injury, as she was so close to victory at the last takeover.
Prediction: Asuka
NXT Tag Team Championship:
Authors of Pain (c) v #DIY
I don't see any reason for AOP to drop the titles here. The dudes are machines and running over #DIY again will just help to cement them as the monsters at the top of the division. I thought the three way with these guys and The Revival was great but that was partly due to the fact that DIY and The Revival have great chemistry. The two of them together couldn't beat AOP so I don't expect DIY to do it on their own.
Prediction: Authors of Pain
NXT Championship:
Bobby Roode (c) v Hideo Itami
Hideo Itami has got the credentials to be an NXT champion. Most of the recent champions have made it big elsewhere before coming to NXT and rising to the top. Roode hasn't had a long reign yet and dropping the title so soon would be a great shock. Which is why I think it will probably happen. An upset Roode out for revenge will make an interesting storyline.
Prediction: Itami
